Change your default browser on mac OS

October 2 2014 in

I’ve often wondered why all my HTML files and browser requests opened in Firefox…that was until today.

It turns out that Safari (The native browser with OS) is responsible for setting your default browser which is a tad strange, so you have to make changes through their Preferences panel.

Open up Safari > Preferences. For this I usually hit , ‘cmd + ,’ but you can also just click Safari in the top left corner then hit Preferences.

Once you are in Preferences, make sure you are on the ‘General’ tab and you will see the option at the top of the list to change your default browser. The list contains all the browsers that you have installed.

I just changed mine to Chrome and its working a charm on everything I would expect it it to straight away.

I think this is a strange place to have it, but it works so hey-ho!
